SURABAYA | duta.co – Sabtu siang (25/4/2026) di atrium Tunjungan Plaza biasanya diisi suara musik atau promo tenant. Tapi kemarin beda.

SURABAYA | duta.co – On Saturday afternoon (April 25, 2026), the atrium of Tunjungan Plaza is usually filled with music or tenant promotions. But yesterday was different. The sound of basketball shoes squeaking, the bounce of the ball, and shouts of “defense!” from little mouths dominated the scene. In the middle of the mall, 70 junior basketball teams were battling it out in the 3×3 Edu Fun East 2026 tournament organized by Ladang Lima.

Pesertanya bukan kaleng-kaleng.

The participants were no slouches. They were aged 7 to 14, but their mental toughness and skills were already on par with real athletes. These were the remaining teams out of the 150 that had registered. Can you imagine how rigorous the selection was? The organizers truly only picked the best to play in the main round.

“Lucu-lucu tapi serem mainnya,” celetuk Bu Rini, salah satu pengunjung.

One standout team is SD Al-Falah Darussalam. Though they’re the smallest in stature, their passing is precise and their three-pointers often go in. Spectators who initially just came to the mall stopped in their tracks, clapped, and recorded the action on their phones. “They’re cute but play with such intensity,” remarked Mrs. Rini, one of the visitors.

Behind all the excitement lies a major mission from Ladang Lima’s founder, Raka Bagus Vinaya. For him, this tournament is the most concrete way to support the children of Surabaya.

“Umur 7 sampai 14 tahun itu masa emas. Mereka nyerap apa aja cepet banget.

“Ages 7 to 14 are the golden years. They absorb everything so quickly. If we don’t provide them with the right environment at this age, their talents could be lost. That would be such a shame,” said Raka, who had been walking back and forth watching every game.

Terus kenapa harus basket? Raka nggak nutup-nutupin. “Gue dulu anak basket. Jadi ada ikatan batin. Rasanya beda kalau lihat anak-anak main, inget zaman gue kecil,” ujarnya sambil ketawa. “Kedua, pasarnya gede. Pas Edu Fun East 2026 ngajakin kolaborasi, ya langsung gue ambil. Ini debut kami di olahraga.”

So why basketball? Raka doesn’t beat around the bush. “I used to play basketball. So there’s a special connection. It feels different watching the kids play—it reminds me of when I was little,” he says with a laugh. “Second, the market is huge. In Surabaya, the kids’ basketball community is really vibrant. When Edu Fun East 2026 reached out about a collaboration, I jumped at the chance. This is our debut in sports.”

What makes this tournament unique is that Ladang Lima doesn’t just provide the court and trophies. As a brand of gluten-free healthy food, they’ve included “quick nutrition classes” for all participants. At the booth next to the court, kids and their parents are taught about foods that boost stamina, maintain focus, and help prevent injuries.

“Jadi atlet cilik itu nggak cukup latihan doang. Makannya juga harus bener,” jelas Raka. “Banyak anak aktif tapi sarapannya mie instan.

“So, being a young athlete isn’t just about training. Their diet has to be right too,” explained Raka. “Many active kids eat instant noodles for breakfast. That’s just draining their bodies. That’s why we’re teaching them that if they want good performance, their fuel has to be premium. Ladang Lima is absolutely relevant here.”

Salah satu orang tua, Pak Andi, ngaku terbantu. “Anak saya susah makan sayur. Tapi setelah dikasih tahu kakak-kakak dari Ladang Lima kalau sayur bikin lari tambah kenceng, sekarang mau. Pulang tanding langsung minta brokoli,” katanya, setengah bercanda.

One parent, Mr. Andi, admitted it helped. “My child used to refuse to eat vegetables. But after the Ladang Lima staff explained that vegetables make running faster, he’s willing now. He even asks for broccoli right after a match,” he said, half-jokingly.

Format 3×3 sengaja dipilih karena cocok buat anak-anak. Mainnya cuma 10 menit, lapangannya setengah, tapi intens. Wk

The 3×3 format was deliberately chosen because it’s suitable for kids. Each game lasts only 10 minutes, the court is half-sized, but it’s intense. All players must rotate, so no one just warms the bench. “The kids learn to make quick decisions, work together, and take responsibility. Winning or losing is normal; what matters is that their mental toughness is built,” Raka concluded. Wk
